Ozil: Iwobi is a mixture of Okocha and Davids

*He reminds me of his uncle Okocha

The Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil has said that the Nigerian young star, Alex Iwobi has a bright future ahead of him, likening him to two of the finest midfielders of recent times, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and former Netherlands star Edgar Davids.
Iwobi has become a first-team regular since breaking into Arsene Wenger’s plans last term and Ozil has been impressed by the impact he has made.
“He reminds me of his uncle, Okocha,” Ozil told Arsenal Player. “He was a player I loved watching. Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Davids.
“He is really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he is good in front of goal too. He knows exactly what he can do. He is not scared and does not hide on the pitch.
“He just wants to have fun playing football and that really shows on the pitch, and also in training.
“He is developing really well and if he continues the way he has been playing the whole season, he will really enhance his game.
“The manager knows exactly how good he is and I wish him all the best. He is really young and is on a really good path.”
Iwobi has provided three assists in seven appearances in 2016-17.

Tension as 501 Ghanaian soldiers opt to join Boko Haram, ISIS

*They claim that there was so much fowl play in the military boot camp from which they were kicked away.

According to Ghana Web, the threat comes after what the soldiers have termed an unfair treatment after they were unceremoniously dumped out of boot camp.
The recruits said even though some of their colleagues were found wanting by the instructors, they had never claimed the training was too difficult as claimed by the leadership of the training school, the basis for which they were sent home.
Convener of the recruits Frank Antwi, in an interview with Adom News said though they could not complete their training, the training they had before the unfortunate dismissal from the training school is enough to qualify them to be recruited into ISIS or Boko Haram unless they are recalled into the training school.
They believe they qualified but have been dismissed wrongly as a result of other considerations instead of their inability to complete the required training.
But a Security Expert and Assistant Director at the New York University, Dr Nicholas Nii Okine has condemned the threat and recommended that National Peace Council and the intelligence agencies step in.
He is suggesting counseling and mini reintegration process to re-tool them to perform other duties for the state, cautioning that this threat if not managed could be disastrous.

Aisha Buhari is not happy with the people creating division whithin APC.

*"This worries us a lot now"

Wife of Nigeria President, Mrs Aisha Buhari has said that some individuals have started creating division among members of the APC. Mrs Aisha Buhari stated this in an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC which was partially aired yesterday.
“This worries us a lot now. Because they believe they are the ones who suffered, but are no where today. Those who didn’t do anything who don’t even have voters’ card are the ones in position, doing everything."
According to Daily Trust, a part of the interview quoted the wife of the president as saying
“What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people," a reference to the number of the people who voted the president into power.
Asked whether the president knows those causing the problems for his government, Aisha Buhari said:
“Whether he knows or he doesn’t know, those who voted for him know. There is nothing I will tell him. He can see. Among all the people he selected, if he is asked among 50 people, he doesn’t know 45. I don’t know them despite staying with him for 25 years."

Iraqi national team publicly sacrifice sheep so that they can qualify for Russia 2018 World Cup

Iraq's national football team iso yet to win a point in Russia 2018 World Cup qualification as they’ve lost their first three matches which include defeats to Australia (2-0), Saudi Arabia (1-2) and Japan (2-1) and face a must win home match against Thailand in their next qualifier game.
In order to qualify for the World Cup they decided to perform the most bizarre, fetish and strangest of practices on Tuesday as they slaughtered a sheep publicly as a 'sacrifice to god' so that luck and good will could befall them in their next home game against Thailand- because according to the team, except God acts, it's impossible for them to qualify for Russia 2018.
In 2011, Turkish team Sivasspor slaughtered a sheep before a game with a Serbian team and won 4-1. In Iraq the practise is seen as an ancient and trust worthy one.

154 Nigerianso deported from Libya

Some Nigerians trapped in Libya have been deported to Nigeria

According to a source, the return of the deportees, was facilitated by the assistance of the International Office for Migration (IOM) who are responsible for the voluntary return of many Nigerians trapped in the crisis that has immersed Libya for some years now.
Some of the deportees also include those trying to make their way to Europe excluding those trapped in the crisis.
Immigration sources said that they arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos at about 4.00 pm.
It was reported that the deportees arrived on board a Libyan airline aircraft, an airbus A330-200 with registration number 5A-LAT.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Police Force, the Air Force and the IOM were on ground to receive them.
Out of the returnees were three minors, nine pregnant women, and three others with medical challenges which in total, comprised of 96 women and 58 men.
Also on board was an IOM doctor, Abusrewi Zakariya, to provide first aid to the sick ones.
The head of IOM in Lagos, Nahashon Maina Thuo, said this was the fourth time this year that the organisation would assist Nigerians who volunteered to return home after they were stranded in Libya.
Meanwhile, barely six months ago,  172 Nigerians have been repatriated from Libya, among whom were a 12-year-old boy and five women. They were said to be on their way to Europe from Libya when they were apprehended by the Libyan government and detained.
They were repatriated with the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in close cooperation with the Libyan authorities and Nigeria’s embassy in Tripoli.

Recession: Read what logos state government has done.

Lagos state about to introduce monthly rent payment for Housing schemes.

*Governor Ambode says this idea is because of the recession which has cut the power of people to pay for services and others.

The government of Lagos state has concluded plans to ensure residents in the state pay rents per month rather than yearly or half-a-year as has been the case for decades.
The Nation reports that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode confirmed this much when he embarking on an extensive inspection tour of projects across the state.
The plan will however only affect those that are on the state government’s Home Ownership Mortgage Schemes popularly called Lagos HOMS.
Governor Ambode said that the government has decided to scale up the rent-to-own policy by introducing monthly payment plan that will allow people pay monthly instead of being compelled to make a down payment of 30 per cent of the total cost or pay for one year.
“We believe strongly that people should be able to pay one month rent and live in our housing schemes. We don’t think in a recession, we should be having a situation where we allow people to come and buy when they don’t have money or to come and pay one year rent."
“We think the way to move forward is to allow these our younger ones to just pay one month deposit and pay one month rent and move into the houses and then more or less play up our rent-to-own scheme,” Governor Ambode said.
“In addition to that, the other housing projects that we are doing are on course and I want to assure Lagosians that in the next few months, we will be seeing a whole lot of housing units being rolled out,” the Governor said.

WHAT A MESS!

Pope Francis reacts to reverend sisters' same-sex marriage

Two lesbian reverend sisters reportedly caused the pope some moments of sadness after news of their marriage filtered in.
The nuns identified as 44-year-old Federica and 40-year-old Isabel, decided to take their love for each other to another height, and this has caused Pope Francis and the vatican a moment of sadness.
According to reports, the nuns had decided that it was okay for them to get married after they had heard a pontificate made by the pope earlier, where he had said “Who am I to judge?” . According to them, “the idea opened their hearts.”
The couple who met and fell in love while working as missionaries in Guinea-Bissau, got married in a civil ceremony on September 28, in Pinerolo, in Northern Italy.
According to the Vatican’s deputy secretary of state Archbishop Angelo Becciu, the pope was very sad when news of the marriage got to him. In a tweet, Becciu said:
“How much sadness on the Pope’s face when I read him the news of the two married ‘nuns’!”
When interviewed by an Italian newspaper La Republica, the newlyweds reportedly said:
“There are many such cases where priests or nuns hide their relationships with men or women. We felt alone, more than that, we felt abandoned.”

How una take reason this news?

Recession: Saraki in support of promotion of homemade goods

*Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has commended the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, on the theme of this year’s summit which focuses on promoting Made in Nigeria goods.

Saraki, who will be a guest at the summit tomorrow, noted that the choice of the theme puts the private sector group on the same page with the Senate which has since last year identified the need to promote local manufacturers and service providers as champions of the efforts to revive the national economy.
In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President stated that the law-making institution, in its 20-point recommendations, on how to get the nation out of the present recession, mentioned that “we must reduce our imports tremendously and increase our exports to earn more dollars and the best way to do that is for us to patronize locally made goods."
therefore amended the Public Procurement Act to ensure that all government agencies compulsorily patronize local manufacturers and service producers in all their procurement. They can only resort to foreign options when there is no local alternative. With this new law, a huge portion of the national budget will go into the pockets of our people and generate employment, improve our GDP and help us to be self-sufficient.
“Other amendments in the Procurement Act reduces the period of award of contract, make the procurement process more transparent and increased mobilization fee to up to 25 percent, all in a bid to help our people just as it is being done in other countries.
“I commend the NESG for their choice of theme and urge them to discuss how to improve on quality and packaging of locally produced goods, helping local producers get into foreign markets and sourcing start-up capitals for small and medium scale entrepreneurs at rock-bottom interest rates.”

Biafra again?

Kanu’s detention will ruin Nigeria - Prophet Nwoko

*Says the detention of Kanu for no just cause will continue to halt Nigeria until he is released and apology tendered to him!

Prophet Anthony Nwoko has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, will spell doom for Nigeria.
Nwoko, speaking with news in Enugu said so many strange things have occurred in Nigeria since Kanu was arrested and detained, reports Vanguard.
He said the detention of Nnamdi Kanu for no just cause will continue to halt Nigeria until he is released and apology tendered to him.
I told Buhari to release Kanu in 2015 otherwise Heaven will strike Nigeria but in his recalcitrant way, Buhari ignored the message,” the prophet said.
“Today Naira sinks to all time low, trading N500 to a dollar; plagues, locusts, guinea birds invades Nigeria from Niger Republic causing food scarcity and hunger; Nigeria economy slips into recession.
“UN recently said that Nigeria was on the brink of famine; hunger, hardship, and multiple earthquakes will hit Nigeria. Jerry Gana had seen the handwriting on the wall and urged Buhari to release Kanu to end Nigeria’s problems”, Prophet Nwoko noted.
The cleric ascribed the current challenges the country was going through to the refusal of former president Goodluck Jonathan to fulfil God’s mandate which is to usher in the messiah from the southeast to save the country.
Meanwhile IPOB says no ploy by the APC, led government of President Muhammadu Buhari will make it not to appear to defend itself in the Community Court of Justice.
The pro Biafra group In a statement titled ‘APC Government can run but cannot hide from the law’ signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr Emma Powerful said: “ He who brings home ants-ridden faggots must be ready for the visit of lizards”.
IPOB alleged that “one of the reasons APC led Nigerian government is running away from the case is because they earlier thought they can intimidate the Judges like they did when the matter first came up, but have found out that the Judges are men of honour.”

Lawyers criticise NBA for supporting alleged corrupt judges

Some lawyers have sharply disagreed with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over its position on the raiding and arrest of some senior judges in the country by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The judges were raided at the weekend with the DSS confirming that hundreds of millions both in local and foreign currencies were recovered from some of the arrested judges, two of whom are in the Supreme Court.
Hours after the judges were arrested, the NBA, through its president, Abubakar Mahmoud, threatened to take action against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari if they were not released immediately.
The umbrella body for lawyers also set up a committee of its past presidents to liaise with the executive arm of the federal government with a bid to resolve the crisis.
However, while the judiciary has remained divided over the development, some notable lawyers have criticized the NBA saying its stand does not represent the interest of some of its members.
In his position, the second vice president of the NBA, Monday Ubani, did not criticize the NBA or the DSS, but urged for caution among Nigerians.
He agreed that this was the first time in the legal history of Nigeria when judges’ homes would be invaded in such manner and in such “an ungodly hour.”
He said: “The NBA has condemned this method of arrest employed by the DSS and has demanded the release of the arrested judges.
“Being an unprecedented event in our history and shocked to their marrows at the approach employed by the security outfit, the NBA has declared a state of emergency on the legal profession (this was not expatiated upon by the president).
“To an average lawyer it is desecration of a sacred institution, a destruction of the third arm of government and unbridled effrontery against the legal profession.
“To the tribalist, this is a war against the South especially now that a Chief Justice of the Federation is coming down to south after several years in the north. That position has been resident in north for over twenty years or so.
“DSS has denied the fact that Justice Onnoghen who is tipped to be the next CJN by the grace of God is under investigation by them.
“To the religious bigots, this fight is against the Christian judges. Wait a minute I heard that about three northern judges of different religion were also arrested. To the party loyalists, APC government is under rampage against the opposition party especially judges who gave victorious judgements to their incumbent governors.
“Before I ask you where you belong in all these, I want to say that corruption must be fought with the last drop of blood we possess to reclaim Nigeria irrespective of class, creed and religion but I advise that we must please follow our laws strictly and diligently in order to attract the support of the majority.
“We must exorcise corruption from all our institutions including from the executive and the fight must remain total and impartial.”
In his reaction, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, slammed the NBA and accused the body of covering up for corruption in the judiciary even with information about some judges.
To him, it is embarrassing that the NBA has not got the will to deal with corrupt officials adding that this was responsible for the current state of the nation’s judiciary.
“In particular, the Nigerian Bar Association which has information on all corrupt judges and lawyers in the country has continued to shield them to the embarrassment of incorruptible members of the bar and the bench.
“The few lawyers who have plucked up the courage to expose corrupt judges and lawyers have been stigmatised and treated like lepers by their colleagues.
“It is on record that when both the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sent invitation letters to judges suspected of corruption they had rushed to the Federal High Court to obtain interlocutory injunctions to prevent their arrest, investigation, and prosecution.
“It is on account of negligence on the part of the legal profession that the SSS which screens candidates before they are recommended by the National Judicial Council for appointment as judges has now engaged in the arrest of judges for alleged corruption and abuse of office,” he said adding that the judiciary put itself in a position to be embarrassed for refusing to act.
Falana continued: “It is a matter of grave concern that the legal profession has allowed the denigration of the hallowed temple of justice because of the misconduct of a few corrupt judges.
“For several years, judges who committed grave criminal offences were not prosecuted but merely retired by the authorities on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.
“Although the National Judicial Council recently recommended the dismissal and prosecution of a judge for extorting the sum of N197m from a litigant the authorities had paid lip service to the menace of judicial corruption in the country.”
He urged that the judges should be admitted to bail since they are considered innocent until proven guilty. He also urged Abubakar Malami, the country’s attorney-general, to make sure the judges are immediately arraigned.
While reacting also in a very lengthy article, Inibehe Effiong, lawyer and convener of the Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (COHRD), noted that the only constitutional provision relating to immunity from civil and criminal proceedings and processes for certain public office holders in Nigeria is section 308 of the constitution and this affects the president, the vice president, governors and deputy governors.
“Those suggesting that judicial officers in Nigeria are entitled to special protection or immunity should be kind enough to cite the enabling constitutional or statutory provision that supports their position. The truth is that there is none.
“Second, is it mandatory for security agencies to seek the consent/intervention of the NJC before investigating, arresting, detaining or prosecuting a judicial officer over alleged crimes?
“The NJC is one of the institutions established by Section 153 of the constitution. The power of the council is provided for in paragraph 21 of the Third Schedule to the constitution. The NJC is empowered inter alia, to recommend the removal from office of judicial officers and exercise disciplinary control over them. By virtue of Section 158 (1) of the constitution, the NJC is guaranteed constitutional independence and is not subject to the control of any other authority or person when exercising its disciplinary control.
“There is no dispute on the disciplinary control of the NJC over judicial officers. What is disputed by some legal commentators is the extent of the disciplinary control. Is it correct to aver that no criminal proceedings or action can be initiated or taken against a judicial officer except on the invitation/directive of the NJC?
“At the risk of repetition, where a judicial officer is alleged to have committed a crime, is it mandatory for law enforcement agencies to go through the disciplinary instrumentality of the NJC before taking actions against the erring judicial officer?
“There is nothing in the provisions of Paragraph 21 of the Third Schedule to the constitution that precludes law enforcement agencies from investigating, arresting, detaining or prosecuting a judicial officer in Nigeria for alleged corrupt practices or for other sundry offences. It is my view that a contrary interpretation will have the inescapable effect of conferring an extra-constitutional immunity on judicial officers.”
“It is my humble view that where the wrongful act of a judicial officer is merely a misconduct and nothing more, the NJC is vested with the power to recommend such offending judicial officer for removal from office and exercise disciplinary control over him. The NJC’s independence from control guaranteed and envisaged by Section 158 of the Constitution does not, and cannot be construed to mean totality or absoluteness of control over judicial officers where the misconduct complained of also constitute a crime,” he said.
Continuing, Effiong noted that some people have argued that the procedure on how erring judges should be dealt with requires that “even when a judge is found or alleged to have committed a crime, a petition must first be written to the NJC and that the petitioner and the law enforcement agencies like the police, the EFCC, the SSS and others must patiently wait for the determination of the petition by the NJC before activating the criminal process. With respect, that cannot be the correct position.
“Ostensibly, this misconception stems from a misunderstanding of the relationship between the constitutional procedure for removal of judicial officers and the liability of judges for criminal offences committed by them.”
Concerning reports that the operatives broke into some of the homes, Effiong quoted sections of the law to defend the action.
“It is reported that the SSS forcibly broke into the house of one of the judges. Section 149 (1) of the ACJA states thus:
‘Where any building liable to be search is closed, a person residing in or being in charge of the building, thing or place, shall on demand of the police officer or other person executing the search warrant, allow him free and unhindered acess to it and afford all reasonable facilities for its search’.
“By the combined effect of Sections 9, 10, 12, 13 and 149 (2) of the ACJA the person executing a search warrant and or arrest warrant is empowered to ‘break open any outer or inner door or window of any house or place’ where unhindered acess is denied upon demand. If the SSS had requested for unhindered access into the house of the affected judge and they were denied, the breaking of the door of the judge’s house was lawful as expressly stated in the ACJA.”
